BuildBlock ICF & Helix® Micro Rebar™ Home Foundation

Suntuity Home’s first NetZero structure starts with a durable, 8-inch foundation base and strong, sound walls. ICF (Insulating Concrete Forms) construct walls that are energy efficient, disaster resilient, low-waste, environmentally friendly, and incredibly easy to install.

Complemented by Helix® Micro Rebar™ poured directly into the concrete cylinder to strengthen wall reinforcement, this method reduces the amount of traditional rebar needed and helps achieve a 9,000 psi compressibility rating in the foundation. In some cases, the use of Micro Rebar™ completely eliminates the need to use traditional rebar. A product that has been utilized in slabs, walls, footings and foundations over the last 20 years, it has more than proven to increase resiliency, ductility, and strength of the concrete.

Helix Foundation

Why Use BuildBlock ICF?

This is the first home in Middlesex County, New Jersey to be built using BuildBlock Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs). Designed to produce less waste and significant monetary savings, this environmentally-friendly material utilizes 8-inch ICF in the foundation to create an R-48 performance value rating and a 54-Decibel rating. The Foundation will be accompanied by a 10-inch BuildDeck for the porch and patio, 10-inch BuildDeck for the infinity edge pool foundation, and 8-inch BuildBlock for its walls.

Why Use Helix Micro Rebar™?

Poured directly into the concrete to accompany the ICF wall frames and promote high quality wall reinforcement, Helix® Micro Rebar™ increases the strength and resilience of the concrete. In this Net Zero project, traditional rebar will be used in conjunction with the Micro Rebar™ to create an R-20 wall foundation slab value on a single span, open truss design with no columns.

This Helix product can increase “fatigue resistance” by up to 300% and improve the flexural strength by up to 33% in comparison to the traditional rebar method. It also helps reduce cost and how much time it takes to complete the project. Helix clients often have said that (1) day of construction is saved for every 10,000 square feet or Micro Rebar used in place of traditional rebar.
